We will miss you, Dr. Slyde

Just to see if they had updated their website recently, I clicked on the St. Louis Tap Festival Website. The first thing I see is:
May 16, 2008
The Robert L. Reed Tap Heritage Institute
Mourns the Passing of our Mentor and Dear Friend
Dr. Jimmy Slyde
I had always known in the back of my mind that one year, I would go back to SLTF and one of the people that I had seen there every year would not be back because they had passed away. I didn't expect it to happen now.

Dr. Jimmy Slyde was not only an amazing tap dancer in his day, but a genuine, caring person, examples of which were witnessed by many in St. Louis during this past summer's workshop and showcase.

Dr. Slyde performing earlier in his career
"I feel blessed that I was able to meet and talk with Dr. Jimmy Slyde. If you were felling down he knew what to say. If you needed help with a step he knew what to say. He was always a class act. When I was faltering, he made me realize that I had to push on. He is so sorely missed." -Robin Reed on the passing of Dr. Slyde

UPDATE: The New York Times has now published his obituary.

May he rest in peace.

Stay on your toes,

Selly

I really enjoyed the Black and Blue piece, his legs move so fluidly. What a shame I didn't know about him while he was alive, I would have loved seeing him perform.
